Melons are an extremely tasty sweet snack. Gently dried, the vitamins (A, C, and others) remain preserved while the taste is concentrated.

The large, juicy melons, which are related to pumpkins, are classified as water melons or sugar melons, the latter including the honeydew melon. Water melons grow on plants close to the ground and originate from central Africa, today they grow in all tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. As the name indicates, the usually red pulp consists by 95.8% of water, making the water melon an important water source in the Kalahari desert. Apart from water, water melons also contain many important mineral nutrients, the vitamins A and C as well as the red colour lycopene, an antioxidant. Sugar melons, with usually green to yellow pulp, contain even more vitamins and mineral nutrients than water melons and are rich in beta-carotin.
